Analysis > Research & Experimentation on Human Embryos
Most research and experimentation on human embryos is conducted in the Assisted Reproductive Technology industry (ART), also known as fertility industry. Experimentation conducted on human embryos in the ART industry is very different from the research activities performed at biotech companies, or conducted by universities. It consists mainly in improving the effectiveness of assisted reproductive technologies. In this sense, it is more appropriate to describe these activities as experimentation rather than research.
This section focuses on the ethical concerns and the regulatory aspects of the ART industry. Some of the articles in the law and policy module contain a discussion of the regulatory approaches in Canada and the United Kingdom.
